Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Technical Questions

Can there also be a Public section to your secured Clinical Study-Portal?

Yes, in addition to the ‘secured’ section, there can also be a public section which is accessible like any other website. You can designate one of your Projects as a ‘Public’ Project.
For example, when you have a Diabetes study and are looking for Diabetes Patients to include in the trial. You can add a public section with more information on the specific study and its selection criteria. It could have a contact page in order for Patients to be contacted regarding inclusion in the Study. More information in this White Paper on using Google Adwords for Patient Recruitment.

Are you using web statistics to monitor usage?

Yes, we are able to monitor all kind of action by users. We usually advise to collect data at the ‘role’ level, this allows you to know how many Clinical Investigator have been using the portal or how many Trial patients. However, we are able to set actions down to the User level. So if you want to verify that a certain document or Web page has been read by a patient or an Investigator, it is no problem to collect this kind of detail.

How safe is any information on your Study Portal?

Yes, it is safe, however, there is more to say about security then we can answer in this context. Only authorized users can access the Portal and it is up to you to set the security levels.
If you are happy with a Password you have supplied to a user, fine with us. If not, you can set an option that upon first login, they are required to reset their password.

Do you want them to reset a password after N days, it is all up to you.

Yes, this is safe. All communications between the User’s PC and the webserver is using SSL, which is the same technique banks are using. Yes, any communication between a User’s PC and the Study-Portal server is secured with SSL. So any Site can safely upload any kind of Image. The only requirement at your end is that you allow each Site to have ‘Upload’ Rights. Upload Rights can be set at the User or at the Role level, so if you assign the same ‘role’ to each of your site, a single setting will be sufficient to grant each of your Sites Upload rights.

What are the technical requirements for using your Portal?

We try to keep the technical requirements at a minimum. Although some clinical investigators might have state-of-the-art equipment, others might still have older versions of Windows with older Browser versions.
Because of this, we avoid using Flash and we support a wide range of Browsers and Browser version (e.g. Internet Explorer (IE 6, IE 7 and IE 8), FireFox, Chrome and Safari: this covers >98% of all Browsers). In other words, you can use our Portal on your 5 year old laptop using XP and IE6 or on the latest iPad.

Can you interface to our Clinical Study DB?

We can setup an interface procedure with your clinical DB which allows to transfer data in a secured way from your server onto our webserver. Usually this is a one way process, with data being copied from your server onto the Study-Portal.
